A story seldom told, but not forgotten
Fate, like a storm cloud, passes over
Safe in our homes, we hide from thunder
But some feel the touch
Of the lightning
Raised on God and country, cornfed pledge allegiance to the home
Handed down memories, we were made to follow footsteps made of stone
With a blueprint of righteousness imprinted on my mind
And a copy of the good book, if I need to know why
But I can’t read the future through smoky painted glass
And I can’t stand to be counted if I’m sitting on my destiny
Glory Road
It winds through the tunnels of my mind
Glory Road
Holds everything I dare to find
Cobblestones unending
I’ll search til I find the emerald door
That lies at the end of Glory Road
Dancing with the devil
Dos-I-do and fade to fiery gray
That hellish pit’s a tourist trap
Skip the crowds and walk away
Faith ain’t taught in Sunday school
It’s a lonely lesson learned
So don’t teach your kids to fear the fire
Teach them not to get burned
I won’t go through life pretending I’m a shadow of myself
I’ll get myself to heaven by raising hell
Glory Road
It winds through the tunnels of my mind
Glory Road
Holds everything I dare to find
Cobblestones unending
I’ll search til I find the emerald door
That lies at the end of Glory Road
A story seldom told, but not forgotten
Fate, like a storm cloud, passes over
Safe in our homes, we hide from thunder
But some feel the touch
Of the lightning
