Mitch McConnell is still stonewalling the push for in independent investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, even as the pushing group continues to expand. According to 538’s Perry Bacon, Jr., just 12 of 52 GOP senators defended President Trump’s firing of FBI director James B. Comey, compared to 15 who found the move troubling. The results from a May 11, 2017 MSN.com poll reveal that 60 percent of Americans want an independent investigation. Yet McConnell continues to resist the movement, too busy with the GOP Legislative agenda to bother with such trivial matters as foreign espionage.
We get it, Mitch You want to repeal Obamacare. You want to roll back President Obama’s executive orders. You want to erase President Obama’s White House history. You want to eradicate Barack Obama’s existence from the face of the beltway. You want to beat Barack Obama. You can’t think about anything else. In your mind you are Batman, and President Obama is the Joker.
You aren’t Batman, Mitch. You are Clark Griswald, obsessively bent on screwing President Obama like Chevy Chase’s character was bent on reaching Wally World in “National Lampoon’s Vacation.” You are so bent on your Obamaquest that you would drag your dog 60 miles behind a station wagon and stow your dead mother-in-law in the overhead rack. You are so bent on removing every trace of the former president’s agenda that you can’t think about anything else.
We get it, Mitch. But it’s time to stop. It’s time for you to forget about Obamaquest for a minute, take a breath – and do your job. The President of the United States just fired the head of an agency charged with investigating the campaign that put him in the White House. You need to open an independent investigation.
President Trump has already violated more traditions, customs and directives than every other president in history. His family, ensconced in the White House, is riddled with conflicts of interest, some of them in Russia, the nation you are supposed to be investigating. The President’s former National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, has been subpoenaed to supply information about his ties to Russia.
We need to know if laws were broken. That’s your job. Call somebody. Get it going. Now. You can lift your leg and pee on Obamacare later.
