Trump Gets Slapped By Judge, Slaps Back

This morning’s Trump tweet:

“The opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law-enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned!”

The “so-called” judge is James L. Robart, a United States district judge in Washington state. It’s not like he was the traffic court judge in Ellensburg. The man is, indeed, a federal judge.

Secondly, the judge’s action doesn’t take any law-enforcement powers away from the USA; it simply restores things to the way they were before Trump took his executive action (an executive action which does not, by the way, carry the force of law, no matter how much Trump would like to think that it does.)

Thirdly, while President Trump does have broad authority over immigration, the courts can and have overruled executive actions pertaining to specific actions (most recently, in 2015 then-President Obama’s expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals executive order). It is far from certain that Judge Robart’s order will be overturned.

In summary, Lord Dampnut (the best anagram of “Donald Trump” I have seen) has, as per usual, packed a whole lot of wrong into 140 characters. Stay tuned.
